Object of Interactive Nonsense

Hive

For the Object of Interactive Nonsense project, we were tasked to create an object which responds in a compelling, interesting, and emotionally evocative way to a user interaction. With the tight timeframe of this project, it was important to develop a concept that was clean and sharp.

The concept I decided to move forward with was a beehive that would “sting” users and violently vibrate and glow when shaken. The input of shaking the hive was achieved using a DoF sensor. The stinging sensation was achieved through multiple haptic vibration motors inside the hive.

Physical Fabrication

Model consists of eight 3D printed parts modeled in Autodesk Fusion 360 and joined with an epoxy.

The internal layout of the electronics is located centrally, with mini haptic motors branching off to create a multi-sensory experience
